Roma´s Lamela plots title bid

Attacking midfielder Erik Lamela believes his Roma team can challenge for the Serie A title in 2012/13.

Roma replaced Luis Enrique with Zdenek Zeman as their coach in June after they only managed a seventh-place finish last season.

Argentine Lamela said champions Juventus will be the team to beat, but feels Roma can spring a surprise if they remain ambitious.

"The goal of winning the Scudetto is difficult but not impossible," the former River Plate man told Il Corriere dello Sport.

"On paper, only Juventus are stronger. We should not limit our ambitions. We must fight for first place.

"It is one of my goals. I know that the Scudetto is not easy to win. But nothing is impossible; it is difficult, but not impossible.

"I like to win. That is why I am here. Names and reputations do not matter, the important thing is to have a competitive team."

Roma start the 2012/13 Serie A season at home to Catania on August 25.
