Adkins: Shaw staying at Southampton

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has dismissed reports linking teenage full-back Luke Shaw with a move away from the club.

The Saints have an impressive track record of developing young talent, with former graduates of their academy including Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and, more recently, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But Adkins has no intention of allowing Shaw to make a similar move away and insists the 16-year-old is very much in his plans ahead of the club's return to the Premier League.

The 47-year-old told the Daily Star Sunday: "Luke Shaw is a big part of our future plans.

"We have got no intention, believe you me, of letting any of our young players move on.

"We want them in the first team in the Premier League, playing for Southampton Football Club."

Adkins also enthused about how much he was looking forward to the upcoming season and insisted his side would adopt a positive mentality towards games.

"We're in the Premier League now because we've earned the right to be there," he said.

"We've got to be positive in everything we do and go and look forward to playing these games with the mentality to win them."
