Ranieri excited by Roma return

Claudio Ranieri is looking forward to returning to Rome this weekend, as his Inter Milan side prepare to meet his old club Roma at Stadio Olimpico.

Ranieri was in charge at Roma until February last year when he resigned after a poor run of results, and he was appointed Inter boss in September after the sacking of Gian Piero Gasperini.

The Serie A clash was supposed to be played on Saturday, but has been moved to Sunday due to heavy snow falls in Italy.

Ranieri, 60, said he was excited about his return to the Italian capital, for what he fears will be a tough test for his side.

"It's always great to go back to Rome. I was lucky enough to be their manager, but that is in the past now and I have to look ahead," Ranieri said.

"It will be an important match both for us and for Roma, it will be a great match, they attack a lot and create a lot of chances, but they concede a lot too, so we need to be careful and use our chances well."

Ranieri was relieved that a leg injury suffered by midfielder Wesley Sneijder in Inter's 4-4 draw with Palermo on Wednesday was not as serious as first feared.

"As for Sneijder, luckily enough all the examinations and x-rays are negative and that's great because I was really afraid something serious had happened to him," Ranieri said.

"Obviously he won't play tomorrow (Sunday), I hope he'll be ready for the game against Novara (February 12)."

Ranieri paid tribute to veteran striker Diego Milito, who scored all four goals against Palermo, and said the big haul was just reward for a lot of hard work.

"I believed in Diego Milito because he is a champion and I saw that his comeback was close. He was always there, in the right place at the right time onto the pitch, but the ball didn't go in," Ranieri said.

"He didn't give in, he was working a lot in training sessions and was giving a lot to the team and for the team. When I see a player with a positive attitude like him I let him play, I think he can be good for the whole team. This is his victory, for his family and for his calmness."
