AC Milan slipped back to sixth in Serie A on Sunday after they lost 2-1 at home to Atalanta BC and rivals Udinese Calcio saw off ACF Fiorentina 3-1.
Carlo Ancelotti's side had the whistles of the San Siro crowd ringing in their ears following a fourth home league defeat of the season. Andrea Pirlo missed a penalty in a frantic last five minutes when Paolo Maldini had given Milan hope with a header and team-mate Alessandro Nesta was sent off for protesting. Sergio Floccari put Atalanta ahead in the 32nd minute and then created the second for Antonio Langella just prior to half-time.

The Rossoneri are four points adrift of the fourth UEFA Champions League qualifying berth with seven games to play. Fiorentina still occupy that position but Udinese are now just three points behind the Viola in fifth after a confident home victory against their rivals. Swiss midfielder Gökhan Inler put Udinese ahead with a fierce shot in the first half before substitute Christian Vieri (63) headed the visitors level. Italy striker Antonio Di Natale then ran half the length of the field to put the hosts back in front and Fabio Quagliarella nodded in their third.

UC Sampdoria stay seventh following a 2-0 win at Empoli FC, while Genoa CFC remain a place below their city rivals after putting two unanswered goals of their own past Reggina Calcio. Torino FC eased their relegation fears with a vital 2-1 win at a Calcio Catania outfit who are 16th and level on points with AS Livorno Calcio, who were held 0-0 by AC Siena. SSC Napoli edged US Città di Palermo 1-0 in the late game while the match between third-placed Juventus and struggling Parma FC was postponed after a Parma fan was accidentally knocked down and killed by a bus.
