Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has slammed the press in his native Italy for consistently criticising him since he joined the German giants last year.
Toni has been a disappointment for the Azurri. E ven the World Cup he had difficulty scoring. He was the starter in practically every game and he only scored twice in one game. All of the other games he failed to find the back of the net. In his defense, however, I think Italy should really get away from this 4-4-1-1 mentality and either use a 4-3-1-2 or at least a 4-4-2 mentality. This "lone Striker" formation is stupid and Italy's Defense has always been strong enough that they can handle having a second forward.
I must defend Luca Toni for two reasons.
1) During the last E Cup, Toni was constantly chasing bad passes he could not reach. Against Spain and with Pirlo out, M. Ambrosini failed to serve not only Toni but also the other forwards.
2) Toni is correct in saying that since he left Italy, he's been maligned bu the Italian media.
WTF I Agree with Tonto ! Luca Toni Scored more than 40 Goals at his First Season with my Team So We Can see Difference that he Plays Better in Bayern & Bad in Azzuri cause of the way of playin of other player i mean that its Italian team fault not toni
Sajnshe, I wonder how Klose manages to score both for your club and your country and Toni is only good for the club. Other teams in Germany must have really bad defensive players then.
Yeah man Klose do & Podolski do this too but in italia u see its in bad playing way in last era after wc 2006 so thats not only toni's fault & its his italian mates 2
I think the biggest problem is that Luca Toni is made to play in the wron position. As NakedWake rightly points out, a 4-4-1-1 formation is silly and outdated. Italy used to play like that when Christian Vieri was the main striker, with similar results.
On top of that, Toni is always tightly marked, so he must be givem more space to move futher back and not always wait for the final pass to reach him in front of goal. More or less the way he was allowed to play against Georgia.
