KNVB reduces amount of Super Sundays
KNVB reduces amount of Super Sundays
AMSTERDAM (SW) - The Dutch football association KNVB has reduced the amount of so-called 'Super Sundays' for the coming season.

A Super Sunday is a day on which the four best teams all meet each other. This past season, those teams were PSV Eindhoven, Ajax Amsterdam, AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord Rotterdam.

The KNVB began this test last year in an attempt to make the Dutch Eredivisie more attractive, but the clubs involved now want to spread out their top clashes a little more.

Therefore, it has been decided to reduce the amount of Super Sundays from six to just two.

The idea has been struggling to survive the past season, as police strikes forced two Super Sundays to be postponed.

Super Sundays ?????????

who cares about Dutch league football !!!!!!!

Well, the Dutch, obviously. But also anyone who genuinely cares about football. Where do you suppose all those Dutch stars that now grace Real Madrid, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Milan, Bayern, and Hamburg came from? The major clubs all scout the Dutch league thoroughly, because after the big five it represents, along with Portugal, the best league soccer available in Europe. And every so often a Dutch team rises up in Europe and smites the major clubs. It wasn't all that long ago that a Dutch team (and even more recently a Portuguese team) won the Champions' League. To focus all of your attention on the EPL or Serie A is to miss much of what's exciting in European soccer.

I'm bulgarian and I follow a great number of Eredivisie games and find them very attractive and thrilling. Anyone can beat anyone, not a single match result can be taken for granted. Fast, attacking, highly technical football is the order of the day there. On top of all you can follow the development of great number of future super stars. And last but not least it's a match-fixing free tournament. What more could one want from a football league?

When a police strike impedes the orderly flow of a soccer game, in Holland or in any other nation, the game it's not worth playing any more. In what kind of world do we live?

ajax72 June 24th, 2008 00:24

Tonto do you mean that where you live the law enorcement agents aren't engaged with keeping public order during important sports events? well in Europe they are obliged by law to do so. So no police-no match.

In USA and Canada, fans get satisfaction from players fighting on the field of play! In Europe, fans fight and kill themselves in the stands because players cannot fight! There must be a way in between. I believe that in North America players should receive much longer suspension for fighting, and in Europe police should start using machine guns on rioters. Does this sound extreme to you? Not if you love law and order!

We are going way off topic here. maybe we can discuss this on some other, more suitable blog.
