CHICAGO (AFP) - Toronto FC traded forward Brian McBride, a former standout for England's Fulham, to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday for forward Chad Barrett and a 2009 first-round Major League Soccer Draft pick.
The Fire hope McBride, 36, can help boost Chicago's anemic attack. The Fire, 7-5-5, has 24 goals this year, with 23-year-old Barrett the top point producer with five goals. He had seven in 2007 as the Fire reached the MLS semi-finals.
US veteran McBride spent the past 4 1/2 seasons with Fulham in the English Premiership, netting 40 goals in 150 appearances for the West London side before announcing in May he was leaving to play nearer his American home.
McBride spent several seasons with the Columbus Crew, claiming MLS All-Star honors five times befire joining Fulham in January of 2004.

Welcome back to the USA, Brian McBride. Well, once you get back with gold from Beijing, that is.RGPII1 July 31st, 2008 05:41

About a month ago, the Fire were losing a lot, now they've regained some position: I know New England is real good but after that there is a lot of equality with the teams. Houston could make a comeback. Almost everyone is in the race and a hot team could win it. I wouldn't want to see Houston win it 3 straight years and I'm not a fan of DC. LA is okay but I don't think they are strong enough in the end. I wouldn't mind seeing Columbus Crew win it all either: one of the smaller markets and they've had a good season.indsc4 July 31st, 2008 17:45
Good to see him back. He's had a briliant career in Fulham.
