DONETSK (SW) - Shakhtar Donetsk have won the first trophy of the new season in Ukraine. In the Super Cup, the reigning league champions beat Dynamo Kyiv on penalties.

Dynamo did take the lead through Artem Milevskiy, but Croatian Darijo Srna headed home for the equaliser just before half time.

Shakhtar were the better side in the second half and even hit the crossbar in one occasion, but no more goals were scored in regular time.

A penalty shoot-out was needed to decide which team was to win the opening trophy of the year. Goalkeeper Rustam Khudzhamov, playing his first match for Shakhtar, saved a penalty from Pape Diakhate and went on to score the winning spot kick himself.

All Ukrainian Super Cup Finals, five in total, had the same two teams competing for victory. Shakhtar won in three occasions, Dynamo in two.
