Manchester United´s English forward Wayne Rooney celebrates after scoring during their UEFA Champions league group E football match against Aalborg at Old Trafford, Manchester. Rooney has escaped a sanction from European football´s ruling body UEFA following an alleged stamp in a Champions League match last week.

NYON, Switzerland (AFP) - Wayne Rooney has escaped a sanction from European football's ruling body UEFA following an alleged stamp in a Champions League match last week.

The Manchester United striker had been accused of stamping on Aalborg's Kasper Risgard during a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last week.

However after reviewing video evidence UEFA said Monday that no charges would be brought against Rooney.

A spokesman said: "Uefa will not open any disciplinary proceedings against Wayne Rooney."

It means the England star, who on Monday was given the backing of national team manager Fabio Capello, will be available for United as they enter the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition.

Love him or loathe him, United are a better team when he plays. Now I know a lot of you out there think he is overrated and admittedly he needs to control his temper from time but he cannot be beaten for passion and for all you doubters United very, very rarely lose a game when Rooney plays (check the statistics)!

Rooney reminds me the song "Who Let The Dog Out" sang by Baha Men : )

newtonheath, I agree with you. Rooney is a good player and he has passion, maybe even more so than passionate Italians. However, he is attracting too much attention for his own good. One of these day Manchester will find themselves shortended and will lose a few crucial games.

Fred this nothing to do with the above but read the comments below.

Here's how Napoli team president Aurelio De Laurentiis reacted to reports that various English clubs were lining up bids for Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik, Walter Gargano and Fabiano Santacroce in January.

"We made these players — two years ago nobody knew who they were," insisted De Laurentiis. "If they want to go to England then in the end they're going to go, but they need to understand this: the English live badly, eat badly and their women do not wash their genitalia. To them, a bidet is a mystery."

Mark. That's a good one! I can see English food being bad, but women not washing their genitalia? It reminds me of the dislike once existing between two formula One drivers, Brazilian Nelson Piquet and Englishman Nigel Mansell. Piquet said of Mansell: ”He doesn’t know anything about cars. He is arrogant and argumentative and his English wife is ugly!”
