PARIS, July 4 (SW) - The French Football League has launched a program to reward attacking play starting next season.

The 'Challenge de l'offensive' (‘Attacking Challenge’) will reward clubs for winning matches by two or more goals.

In a table which has no bearing on league position, two points will be awarded for a one-goal victory and three points for a victory with a margin of two or more goals.

Both first and second division clubs will be included in the scheme, with a total of €20 million available as prize money. The Ligue 1 winner will be awarded €2.4 million.

Just 2.2 goals were scored per match in Ligue 1 last season, putting the French top flight at the bottom of Europe’s major domestic championships. Nearly three goals were scored per match in the Bundesliga and more than 2.5 in the English Premiership, Serie A and la Primera Division.
