BUENOS AIRES, Dec 6 (Sw) - Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo retires after next Sunday, when he will lead Boca's championship match against Lanus.
Elizondo was the first referee to lead both the opening match as the final of the World Cup during the latest edition in Germany. Elizondo also shares the record of number of matches led during the tournament, with Mexican Benito Archundia.
The 43-year-old is allowed another two years of international refereeing, according to FIFA regulations. Sunday will conclude a twelve-year long career, after which Elizondo said he will set up a refereeing school.
